Welcome to the Fryhole. I’m Kira Stackhouse, eater and food lover. I love to eat and share my food experiences with you. I’m just a regular person with a big appetite for food and life! I grew up in Pennsylvania mainly eating simple American, Italian and Eastern European food. I never had sushi, Japanese, Thai, Indian, etc until I went to college.
What is Fryhole?
Fryhole is the vortex of my food-loving soul. Inspired by my deep love for french fries and potatoes, I wanted to start documenting all of the awesome food I eat. Some people say, “put it in your piehole,” I say, “put it in your FRYHOLE”.
What is this site?
A place to celebrate food!
I started this site many years ago to document all of the food I eat around at restaurants. Fryhole is the food core of my heart, where I want to share all of the ups and downs of eating around the Bay Area. The reviews I write here are real – the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Most food blogs out there are recipe-centric, this one’s not. I may sprinkle a recipe in here and there, but this site is mainly food reviews and photography only. I like cooking but I don’t have the time, so I like to eat out, and this is my story.
A peek into what food is out there in the SF Bay Area
I’m very lucky to live in one of the best if not the best culinary city in the world. So naturally, I eat out a lot, and Fryhole is here to share my food adventures with you. I eat everything – food from trucks and stands all the way up to high-end restaurants. I don’t discriminate, so you’ll find a broad variety of food covered here. Also please note that I am completely honest in my reviews of everything I post. I don’t love everything I eat and I don’t sugarcoat my reviews with fluffy happy words if I don’t mean it. I’m a hard sell!
Document my experience eating lunch with strangers
When I started this site back up I told myself I wanted to do something that was not like any other food blog. To me, this means incorporating a great story. Not just the story of me eating at places, but stories of everyday people – because everyone loves to eat! As a society, we’ve become more connected to people with social media but less connected on a human level, and so I thought it would be interesting to start a project eating lunch with strangers because everyone has an interesting story – and it’s easy to talk about food, because food is a natural connector. Woo hoo! Beware, high foodie emotions at stake… So if you want to eat lunch with me, sign up here.
To promote learning and share my experience as a marketer, designer and developer
Over the years I’ve learned how important it is to create valuable content for people. It’s one thing to just publish a bunch of stuff online – and quite another to share info that will help people improve, whether that be in business, in searching for the perfect restaurant, etc. I’m an entrepreneur by nature – professional photographer, marketer, web designer and developer. I’m hoping to use this site as a new platform to share knowledge with other people who are trying to get into doing this too.
ABOUT KIRA
I’m a professional photographer (animals and food, the best things in life) and entrepreneur! I love photography and my food photos have appeared in 7×7, Food & Wine, DRAFT, and more.
Throughout my life, I’ve always been an eater. I also worked as a hostess, server and bartender in my early 20’s, which were some of the most fun years of my life (can I say, restaurant bowling league?!).
One of my proudest and most exciting moments in my life so far was when I got to personally interview my foodie hero, Andrew Zimmern, for a feature in SIERRA magazine. He is a very kind, generous and thoughtful person whose diverse experiences truly inspire me.
Ways to my heart
FRENCH FRIES, potatoes (almost any kind/variety/style), great coffee, fried chicken, corn, shrimp, cream-based soups, broccoli, dipping sauce, ramen, fat rice noodles, hot dogs, ice cream, brussels sprouts, crunchy things… any combination of the above, to name a few. If you like these things too, you’re in luck!
Annoy me
Floppy pizza, soggy anything
Have fun and please contact me if you have any questions or comments.
Leave comments, tell me what you think, and come back soon!
Kira
