Bombay Ice Creamery: Sesame Seed Ice Cream

Submitted by Kira on Wednesday, 26 November 20082 Comments

Since I was in the area, I went down to the Bombay Ice Cream after lunch for some dessert.  Bombay Ice Cream has a bunch of different normal and non-traditional flavors like lychee, cardamon rose, chiku, fig, kesar pista (cardamon pistachio), etc… I decided to try something new – the sesame seed ice cream.  From the freezer it looked grayish purple and it was actually pretty chilly outside so I dont know what I was thinking by going to get ice cream.

Anyway, it was pretty good.  It took a long first spoonful to really catch the sesame flavor – in this instance the sesame is more of an “essence” than a flavor, because you don’t taste it right away… it’s more of an after-essence.  I’m not saying it doesn’t taste like sesame seeds, it does, it has a mild nutty flavor. The sesame seeds are ground up and look like little specks in the ice cream, like vanilla bean.

The sesame seed ice cream is pretty hard to describe.  It is a rich ice cream, but in a “light” way. It’s not heavy and creamy, but it’s not light like sherbert.  I would definitely get it again, and you should too if you’re ever by the Bombay Ice Cream.

FYI: Bombay Ice Cream is CLOSED on Monday’s.  Oh, and everyone who works at this place is super nice and friendly (in my experience).

Can you taste it yet?
